Can't get IMEI number

I have a new Moto G7 Power phone. Got everything transferred from my Moto G4. Put in a new AT&T sim card in it. Switched the phones on the Tracfone new phone site. The phone works OK but I can't get the IMEI number dialing the code *#06#. I get a message saying "connection problem or invalid MMI code. HELP!!
