New annual SIM AND a new phone - Help please?

Hi, I've got a new SIM that is supposedly loaded with an annual refresh but I've also got a new phone. So, I was wondering which sequence would be better to do -
1. Put the new SIM in my current phone (Pixel 3a) and verify all is well and then swap the SIM into the new phone (Pixel 6a).

or

2. Swap my existing SIM into the new phone and verify it works OK and then put the new SIM into the new phone.

I want to make sure I keep my phone number, data, texts & minutes, too.

Never mind, I found access to Chat via SMS.

FYI - whoever has the same question, they just needed the IMEI of the new phone and the new SIM card number and it all happened very quickly. It looks like it's working great.
