Can I request a different area code after I got a Tracfone #

I added our son on Tracfone and was dismayed to see it's a completely Unfamiliar area code, never seen this area code in our area. It didn't ask me any options when activating his phone. He is upset about this. ANything I can do to get the phone number changed? We activated the phone yesterday. THe process was very confusing, didn't even know what the phone number was until we seen it on MY phone - seeing who called.
